Hideaways: The Raglan Treehouse

I’ve had the privilege of staying in a few beautiful places, built with love and a mindset of slow living. This place was no exception — the Raglan Treehouse is exactly what it is, a treehouse set amongst a picturesque pine wood with an amazing view of the sea, stretched in front of you framed by rolling hills.

The Raglan Treehouse by Tiny House Escapes is an off-grid escape, complete with outdoor bath and loft bedroom. We stayed in this tiny house for two nights tucked away from the world — reading, foraging, having baths and chatting. As it’s fully off-grid, there is no reception however there is a bit of patchy WiFi by the edge of the treehouse if you wanted to stay connected.

The deck is framed with festoon lighting (solar powered) and banisters line the outdoor bath so you still have the scenery but also privacy. The interiors are simple but sweet and thoughtful (hooks to hang things, lots of storage space and plenty of cushions) with books and candles and even UE Boom speakers for some music. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a small solar powered fridge. The loft bedroom has the comfiest bed and a mosquito net is provided to keep the bugs away in summer. I’ve read that the whole treehouse is fully insulated so this would also be fine to visit in winter! (Being two hours away from Auckland, I fully intend to come back!)

On our second day we went on the Picnic Tree track that the owners of the place built leading to a Puriri tree at the bottom of the hill. I enjoyed the walk more than the destination but found the hillside be the prettiest one I’ve ever come across! Full of wildflowers and that view of the ocean, we couldn’t help but take photos!

But the most enchanting bit of my stay was when nighttime fell. The sunset light streamed through the banisters, so as I’m sitting in the bath I’m covered in a golden glow. The romantic festoon lights, watching the skies turn from orange to red to purple and listening to the birds sing in the early eve was an ethereal experience. We watched as the stars slowly popped in to view and listened to music until late into the night. I loved every bit of it. If you ever visit Raglan, make sure to check out this dreamy little spot and get away from the world!
