Hideaways: The High Country Cabin

If there was any place I’d escape to at any given point in time, this cabin would be it. The surrounding mountains, the remoteness and this carefully curated abode paired perfectly to make the ultimate blend of cosiness.

With it's massive fireplace, wooden cabin feel and curated interiors, this place is every bit of a dream. You could spend hours simply reading, curling up by the fire or watching your neighbours (the cutest sheep) scuttle past. There’s an abundance of firewood behind the cabin and should more kindling be needed, a handy Kindling Cracker is set on the property for you to make as much as you need! Inspired by backcountry huts and hiking shelters in New Zealand, the cabin’s form is based on this basic structure. It’s intention was an outdoor retreat, one where you can come back to after a hike and kick you boots off, enjoy the fire and prepare a good meal. Indeed the kitchen has everything you need - gas cooktop, all cooking ware and utensils, even an oven!

For more touches of luxury, the bed is a soft cloud of fresh, hotel-quality linen that you can sink into (lots of pillows too) after a long day outdoors. The shower has great water pressure and of course, hot water! The loft upstairs provides additional bed space for groups of more than 2 and there’s even a washing machine should you need it!

It’s the view that gets me, though. Everywhere you look you’re encapsulated in the wild. And at night — the stars dance for you with one of the world's cleanest, driest, and darkest skies.

An escape, a retreat, sanctuary - call it what you like - it’s perfect. And you’ll never want to leave.
